Presented in partnership with Doctors of the World Canada and the National Assembly of Quebec, this exhibition will be unveiled during the Francophonie Month. The project is also part of the Citizen Programming of the National Assembly of Quebec.

Supported by the Delegation of Wallonia-Brussels in Quebec and Doctors of the World Canada, the opening will take place on March 8, 2023, International Women’s Day, in the presence of the photographer, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Description of the project:

The photographic exhibition SAKIFE: Women’s Health in Kivu is set in the provinces of North and South Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and aims to expose the roles of women in the health care system, including the work of Dr. Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize 2018. It is based on snapshots of the lives of women caregivers, patients, and victims. The exhibition highlights the global consequences of limited access to quality health care for women in the Kivu, as well as the care of victims of sexual violence, particularly those committed by armed groups. The report was made in 2022 through the committed view of the Belgian photographer Christophe Smets (La Boîte à Images) and the texts of the journalist Olivier le Bussy (Libre Belgique).
